You can call to make an appointment at your earliest convenience. However, you might like to arrange a referral (called a Mental Healthcare Plan) through your GP first, as this will allow you to receive a significant Medicare rebate on your psychology sessions.
Otherwise, please give us a call or email me to arrange your first appointment.

A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is a type of referral written by a doctor that entitles a patient to Medicare rebates on psychology sessions. A MHCP allows patients’ to access 6 psychological therapy sessions subsidised by Medicare. After a patient has used these 6 sessions, they can then visit their GP to obtain a MHCP Review, allowing them to access an additional 4 subsidised sessions.
The rebate rate per session is currently $92.90.
Patients are entitled to receive a total of up to 10 subsidised sessions in a calendar year (1st January - 31st December).

During our first session, my main goal is to get to know you and understand the nature of the difficulties you are facing in your life. My aim is to create a comfortable and safe space for you to share your thoughts and feelings.
At times, I may reflect on your difficulties to ensure that I understand your situation correctly. We will work together to design a plan that will help you improve your mental and emotional well-being. This plan may include setting goals and outcomes for our therapy sessions that we will work towards together.

Unfortunately there is no set number. The number of sessions you may need depends on your unique circumstances and what you would like to get out of therapy.
Some people resolve their issues in a small number of sessions, whereas others require treatment over a longer term.

Hugh is accredited to provide services under WorkCover and Medicare. Session fees are set at $190 per 50 minute session, which is well below the APS’ recommended rate.
Sessions under Medicare will have a rebate of $96.65, meaning clients are paying $93.35 out-of-pocket. Medicare will rebate you for up to 10 sessions each calendar year under a valid Mental Health Care Plan.
Secondly, if you have private health insurance with ‘extras’ you may be entitled to an additional rebate. It is worth calling your private health insurance provider to enquire about your rebate entitlements.
